1. Program Overview
This is a civil service that allows registered foreigners to apply for an extension of stay before the current period expires. Applications can be submitted either online or by making a visit reservation, and the application method may vary depending on the visa type.
2. Eligibility and Conditions for Online Application
The following visa categories are eligible for online application:
- D-1 (Arts & Culture), D-2 (Study), D-4 (General Training), D-5 (Journalism), D-6 (Religion), D-7 (Dispatch), D-9 (Trade Management), D-10 (Job Seeking)
- E-1 to E-6 (Professor, Conversation Instructor, Research, Technical Instruction, Professional, Entertainment), E-9 (Non-professional Employment), E-10 (Seafarer)
- F-1 (Visiting Family), F-3 (Dependent), H-1 (Working Holiday), H-2 (Visit and Employment)
Note: D-3 (Industrial Trainee), D-8 (Corporate Investment), E-7 (Specific Activities), F-2 (Residency), F-4 (Overseas Korean), F-5 (Permanent Residency), etc., are not eligible for online applications.
Online application cases under F-1 status:
- Nationality applicants, children born in Korea to legally residing foreigners
- Spouse or minor child of F-4, H-2, F-2 status holders
- Parents of international students, guardians of talents, family of naturalization applicants
For foreigners under 17 years of age, the application must be submitted by a legal guardian, and the address must match that of the parent or guardian.
3. How to Apply
Online Application
- Application period: From 4 months to 1 day before the expiration date (business days)
- Apply through the Hi Korea online system
Visit Reservation Application
- Make a reservation at the local immigration office or branch (Click here for locations)
- Available year-round; apply by one day before the expiration date (business days)
4. Required Documents
Common Documents:
- Application form (Form No. 34): See attached file below
- Passport or Certificate of Entry Permission
- Alien Registration Card
- Proof of residence
- Additional documents by visa type available in Visa Guide Manual
5. Fees and Processing Procedures
Online Application Fee
- 50,000 KRW
- Non-refundable after submission
- Exempt for Argentine nationals under 14 years of age
Processing Procedure
Online Application: ① Apply → ② Attach documents → ③ Pay fee → ④ Submit → ⑤ Check result (My Page)
Visit Reservation: ① Book → ② Visit → ③ Apply → ④ Submit → ⑤ Check result (Application Status)
Application Hours: Weekdays 07:00–22:00 (Online) / Year-round (Visit)
Processing Time: 10 days on average, up to 2 months if review is needed
6. Processing Agency and Contact
- Processing Agency: Local Immigration Office or Branch
- Responsible Department: Stay Management Division, Korea Immigration Service, Ministry of Justice
- Phone Inquiry: Call 1345 (no area code required)
7. Important Notes
- Online application is not allowed if more than 4 months remain on the period of stay (except for special approval purposes)
- If a system error occurs, you must visit the immigration office in person to apply
- For F-1 status (Visiting Family), make sure the address matches that of the parent
- F-5 (Permanent Resident) status holders do not need to apply for extension
